NEWS & EVENTSA VICTORY AGAINST THE MARLEY HILL SURFACE MINE PROPOSAL (on the Gateshead /Stanley, Co Durham boundary)
We have just had great news that what was originally a UK Coal application to opencast the Marley Hill site is now dead. Gateshead originally approved the application, but Co Durham refused permission. We have been informed by the Durham Case Officer that there is not going to be an appeal. |

Land of Oak and Iron Landscape Partnership - November Update
I am conscious we have not been in touch for a while; it’s amazing how quickly time passes when you're bid writing! Anyway after a very successful summer of consultation the Land of Oak and Iron Landscape Partnership wants to say a big THANK YOU to all those that contributed; your ideas have been really helpful to shape the projects and show what the local community want. The consultation period has now ended and the Land of Oak and Iron team are coordinating all of the great feedback and stories we have uncovered, aligning them to project ideas for prioritisation through the Cultural, Natural and Built Heritage sub-groups which have met twice since the summer to consider project ideas. Individual residents, as well as community organisations, have attended these and made valuable contributions to the project selection process. Recommendations will now be considered by the Partnership Board over the next two months. An overview of our timescales going forward and how the whole programme is developing is attached. The scrutiny and approval of these ideas will continue until the end of the year so ideas could be subject to change. One exciting change is that we are hoping to find savings in the original budgets to enable the creation of a Land of Oak and Iron Community Grants scheme which local community groups can bid into to support projects that link to the Land of Oak and Iron. If you know of other organisations that might be interested in this please do send it on, or if you would like to put an article in a local newsletter do let me know. If you have a question or would like to discuss any ideas in more detail do not hesitate to give me a call. Many thanks for your continued support and best wishes, Lisa Thank you for the support guys.... our facebook page has now reached 1,049 people and we are hitting 200 website hits per day, we hope you will continue to share this site, our fb page and our posts to increase our reach to every local resident giving them the chance to help STOP these people DESTROYING OUR COUNTRYSIDE, our heritage, our history...... show your support and comment on our fb page but most of all contact us via our site and come along to the inquiry. The Appeal decision has returned and planning permission has been granted for the Bradley site. We have added a page with information regarding many open cast mining sites across the UK planned and present, all of which have supporter who are fighting battles against destruction of their countryside, threats of non-regeneration, health issues and many other concerns we have when living so close to sites like these.
